Surprise Proposal at Spirit Island, Maligne Lake
When Andre first reached out to me about proposing in Jasper National Park, I was stoked! While generally a bit stressful, these are one of my favorite sessions to shoot.
At first, Andre had no further plans than that he wanted to propose at Maligne Lake. He wasn’t even entirely sure how he wanted to go about it! But after hearing about what he did have for a vision, and discussing other possible options, we decided it would be a full surprise, where I (the photographer) would be waiting inconspicuously at the desired location to capture the moment without his now fiancé Nikki being any the wiser.
With a couple of months to plan, he settled on taking the premium cruise to Spirit Island for their engagement photos in Jasper National Park. The day of, we set sail for Spirit Island. What was a foggy and smoky day down in the Jasper valley was a beautiful and clear day on Maligne Lake, making for near perfect reflections on the cruise.
Once docked at Spirit Island, Andre and I had concocted a plan for him to propose in a specific spot, about 10 minutes after docking. Not all plans go perfectly though! What should have been a ten minute gap turned into closer to 20 of the 30 minute dock time, but when he finally proposed, he couldn’t have gotten a more emphatic “YES”. There was definitely some tears too!
We didn’t have long after that for pictures around Spirit Island, so we hopped back on the boat and took advantage of the scenic boat ride.
Back at the main area of Maligne Lake, we walked along the shoreline as the sun set, wrapping up a beautiful proposal story for this wonderful couple!
